Granada Spanish School

Granada is a positively beautiful town full of Andalusian charm and hospitality. This truly ancient city was founded well before Roman times by an Iberian tribe called the Turduli. In the time of the Islamic Caliphate of al-Andalus it grew to be the most prosperous city in all Europe and surely one of the most prosperous in the world. Back then it was already famed for its cosmopolitan nature. Muslims, Jews and Christians lived together and three languages were commonly spoken: Hispanic Arabic, Hebrew and Mozarabic (a Latin-derived Romance language heavily influenced by Arabic and Hebrew), though the languages of science and culture were considered to be Arabic and Hebrew.

Granada's history is accordingly rich and splendid. The cultural legacy it has been left by past generations continues to be a beacon and attracts millions of visits from around the world. In modern times Granada has resumed its place as Andalusia's cosmopolitan capital bar-none, with the eclectic mix of Arabic and European sensibilities that defines this town, and Andalusia in general. The spectacular and unforgettable Alhambra is perhaps the most well known of Granada's historical monuments, but by no means should it be your only stop during your stay here. Granada is replete with sights to see that attest to its fascinating history, including Arabic and Jewish bath houses over a thousand years old, Arabic aljibes (water canalisation) and the ancient Roman district which preserves its grid layout.

As the Granadan saying goes: "You haven't seen anything until you've seen Granada". The Granada Spanish School gives you the opportunity not only to get to know Granada but also to immerse yourself in its truly ancient culture through the Spanish language.
